Abstract

This research departs from the low level of public knowledge, especially the younger generation, about the history of Jayapura City. The low level of historical knowledge causes a lack of historical awareness characterized by a lack of concern for the existence of colonial heritage buildings in the Abepura (Jayapura) area which tend to be neglected. Whereas Abepura is an area that has an important and strategic role in the government system during the colonial period until now. These colonial relics need to be maintained and preserved so that the identity of the region and the socio-cultural values inherent in these relics are not lost. This research aims to describe the method of walking through historical heritage in Abepura as a strategy to strengthen historical awareness among the younger generation of Papua. The research method used is the historical method, with stages: heuristics, source criticism, interpretation and historiography. The results showed that first, there are several colonial heritage buildings in Abepura, namely round houses, residential houses for government employees, Uncen transistor buildings, STT GKI I.S. Kijne buildings and STT GKI I Lecturer housing. S Kijne. These buildings were built by the Allied (American) and Dutch governments to support government activities while in power in Papua. The form of these buildings has cultural, architectural, artistic, and technological values at that time so it is very important to be maintained and preserved for future generations.
