Abstract

Verenigde Oost Indische Compagnie Founded March 20, 1602, it is a company founded in Banten led by Francois. The VOC aimed to monopolize the spice trade to gain maximum profits,VOC activities led to colonialism the Indonesian region. During its colonial period in the archipelago, the VOC implemented policies that oppressed the people, such as the verplicte leverantien system in handling taxes implemented in the form of agricultural products and head money. Policy required that harvest be handed over to the VOC at a price determined by the VOC. VOC bankrupt 1799. archipelago was taken over the Dutch government and known as the Dutch East Indies. Then 1811 Dutch rule fell into British hands under the leadership of Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles, the implementation of land rent known as Landrente, a policy that required people to pay taxes to the British government. This research uses heuristic historical methods, criticism, interpretation and historiography. The research results show that the agricultural policies implemented during colonialism made people oppressed and miserable. The aim of this research is to provide education to students and the public about the importance of understanding Indonesia's agrarian history so that dark events in the past do not happen again.
