PUBLICATION ETHICS
Publication Ethics
Jurnal Olahraga Papua is committed to upholding the highest standards of publication ethics in accordance with the guidelines issued by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). This commitment safeguards the integrity of the scholarly record and sustains the trust of readers, authors, reviewers, and the wider academic community.
Editorial Responsibilities
The Editors of Jurnal Olahraga Papua are entrusted with making publication decisions based on the academic quality, originality, and relevance of submitted manuscripts. These decisions are made in collaboration with peer reviewers, whose assessments are carefully considered, while ensuring compliance with applicable legal and ethical standards, including those related to defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. Editorial decisions are made objectively and are not influenced by the authors’ nationality, ethnicity, political views, race, or religion.
Confidentiality is a primary responsibility throughout the review process. Information concerning a manuscript is disclosed only to the corresponding author, reviewers, prospective reviewers, and other editorial advisers as necessary. Editors must not use unpublished material disclosed in a submitted manuscript for their own research without the authors’ explicit written consent. In addition, beginning in 2025, the Editors will strengthen transparency by requiring disclosure of research funding sources and clarifying any role the funder may have played in the conduct of the research or the publication process.
Editors are committed to maintaining a fair, impartial, and timely peer-review process. Impartiality is supported through policies that appropriately manage submissions from editorial board members. Clear authorship guidelines are provided to ensure transparency regarding who qualifies as an author. Editors also foster constructive relationships with reviewers by encouraging attention to ethical issues, including plagiarism, redundant publication, and unethical research practices. Reviewer comments are shared in full with authors unless they contain offensive or defamatory content. Reviewers who repeatedly submit low-quality, discourteous, or late reviews may be removed from the journal’s reviewer database.
To ensure quality assurance in published content, Editors take reasonable steps to verify that studies have received approval from an appropriate ethics committee or institutional review board, where applicable. Editors remain vigilant regarding intellectual property issues and work with the publisher to resolve legal or procedural disputes. If errors, inaccuracies, or misleading information are identified in a published article, the Editors act promptly and transparently to issue corrections or retractions as required. Through these responsibilities, the Editors uphold the integrity and quality of Jurnal Olahraga Papua.
Reviewer Responsibilities
Reviewers play a central role in supporting editorial decision-making and assisting authors in improving their manuscripts through constructive feedback. Reviewers should promptly notify the Editor if they feel unqualified to review a manuscript or are unable to complete the review within the required timeframe.
Manuscripts under review must be treated as confidential documents and must not be shared or discussed with others without explicit permission from the Editor. Reviews should be conducted objectively, avoiding personal criticism of the authors, and should be supported by clear and well-reasoned arguments.
Reviewers are responsible for identifying relevant published work that has not been cited and for informing the Editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript and other published works. Reviewers must disclose any conflicts of interest that could compromise their objectivity. Privileged information obtained through peer review must remain confidential and must not be used for personal advantage.
Ethical Guidelines for Authors
Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy, originality, and ethical integrity of the work they submit. Research findings must be presented accurately, with sufficient methodological detail and appropriate references to enable replication. Authors should retain and be prepared to provide raw data upon request and must ensure compliance with ethical standards for studies involving humans, animals, or plants. All submissions must be original, and appropriate citation of others’ contributions is required to avoid plagiarism.
Manuscripts must not be submitted to more than one journal simultaneously, and duplicate publication is prohibited. Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the research, and all co-authors must approve the final version of the manuscript. Any hazards associated with chemicals, procedures, or equipment used in the research must be clearly disclosed. Authors are also required to declare any financial or personal conflicts of interest that could influence the research.
If a significant error is discovered in a published work, authors must promptly notify the journal and cooperate in issuing a correction or retraction in accordance with COPE retraction guidelines. Manuscripts will undergo plagiarism screening, and submissions with an unacceptable similarity index will be rejected. Withdrawal of manuscripts is discouraged unless properly justified and approved by the editorial board.
Additional Information on Publication Ethics
Plagiarism Policy: Plagiarism in any form, including self-plagiarism and duplicate submission, is strictly prohibited. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism will be rejected or, if already published, retracted.
Corrections and Retractions: Errors in published articles are corrected transparently through errata or corrigenda, while serious issues may lead to retraction in accordance with COPE guidance.
Ethics Approval: Research involving humans, animals, or plants requires ethical approval from an appropriate committee, compliance with relevant international guidelines (e.g., the Declaration of Helsinki), and proper documentation of consent where applicable.
Conflicts of Interest: Authors must disclose any potential conflicts of interest relevant to the manuscript. If no conflicts exist, a statement declaring the absence of conflicts must be included. Starting in 2025, this declaration will be mandatory.
Jurnal Olahraga Papua takes allegations of ethical misconduct seriously. Misconduct includes plagiarism, data fabrication, falsification, duplicate submission, citation manipulation, authorship disputes, and biased or manipulated peer review.
Plagiarism: Includes copying text, ideas, images, or data without proper attribution, or reusing previously published content without permission or appropriate disclosure. Manuscripts found to contain plagiarism during peer review will be rejected; published articles may be corrected or retracted.
Data Fabrication and Falsification: Creating, altering, or selectively omitting data to mislead readers is unethical. This includes manipulating images or removing outliers solely to achieve desired results. Such practices may result in rejection or retraction.
Duplicate Submission: Authors must ensure the manuscript is not under consideration elsewhere. Duplicate submission is considered a serious breach and may result in rejection or other sanctions. For translations or secondary submissions, prior permission from the original publisher must be obtained and disclosed.
Authorship Issues: Authorship must be restricted to those who have made significant scholarly contributions. Disputes will be handled transparently by the journal.
Citation Manipulation: Excessive or inappropriate citations added primarily to inflate citation counts or promote specific journals are unethical and will be investigated.
Peer-Review Manipulation: The journal selects reviewers carefully to avoid conflicts of interest and follows COPE guidance to ensure an unbiased review process.
Where misconduct is suspected, the editorial board will conduct an investigation consistent with COPE procedures. Confirmed cases may result in rejection, retraction, correction, or a submission ban for future manuscripts.
Corrections and Post-Publication Updates
To preserve the accuracy and integrity of the scholarly record, Jurnal Olahraga Papua addresses post-publication errors transparently through corrections and updates.
Erratum: Issued to correct errors introduced by the publisher during production (e.g., typographical errors). Such errors are ideally identified and corrected during proofreading prior to publication when possible.
Corrigendum/Correction: Issued when authors request changes after publication due to significant inaccuracies or omissions. The editorial team evaluates the significance of the requested changes and determines whether a correction is warranted.
Errata and corrigenda are linked to the original article and clearly describe what has been corrected. If an error substantially affects the validity of the findings, a retraction may be issued instead, in accordance with COPE guidance. Authors requesting substantial changes to an accepted article may be required to submit a new manuscript for evaluation if the changes involve major additions or modifications.
