Retraction

Jurnal Biologi Papua is committed to maintaining the integrity, accuracy, transparency, and reliability of the scholarly record.

The journal follows the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in addressing errors, research misconduct, and other concerns affecting published articles.

Retraction is intended to correct the scientific literature and protect its integrity, rather than to punish authors.

2. Grounds for Retraction

A published article may be considered for retraction under the following circumstances:

  1. There is clear evidence that the findings are unreliable due to major errors, data fabrication, falsification, or inappropriate data manipulation.

  2. The article contains substantial plagiarism or unauthorized reproduction of previously published materials.

  3. The findings have been published elsewhere without appropriate disclosure, citation, permission, or justification.

  4. The research involved serious violations of applicable research ethics.

  5. The peer review or publication process was substantially compromised.

  6. Undisclosed conflicts of interest or other serious irregularities undermine confidence in the findings or conclusions.

  7. Other serious problems render the article's findings or conclusions unreliable.

Retraction decisions must be based on an appropriate assessment of the available evidence.

3. Retraction Investigation Procedure

When a concern regarding a published article is reported, the editorial team will conduct an initial assessment.

The procedure includes:

  1. Receiving and documenting the allegation or concern.

  2. Evaluating the available evidence and the seriousness of the allegation.

  3. Contacting the corresponding author and, when appropriate, other authors for clarification.

  4. Consulting independent experts or relevant institutions when necessary.

  5. Assessing the reliability of the article and determining appropriate corrective action.

  6. Communicating the editorial decision to the parties concerned.

Authors should be given a reasonable opportunity to respond to allegations.

The Editor-in-Chief or an authorized independent editor is responsible for determining the appropriate editorial action, with support from the publisher where necessary.

4. Retraction Notice

When an article is retracted, Jurnal Biologi Papua will publish a clear and accessible retraction notice.

The notice should include:

  1. The title of the retracted article.

  2. The names of its authors.

  3. Complete bibliographic information identifying the original article.

  4. The reason for the retraction.

  5. The identity of the party issuing the retraction.

  6. The date of the retraction.

  7. A direct link to the original article.

The notice must be publicly accessible and clearly identified as a retraction.

The journal will take appropriate steps to ensure that the retraction status is reflected in relevant article metadata and indexing services.

5. Accessibility of Retracted Articles

Retracted articles will ordinarily remain accessible in the journal's electronic archive to preserve the transparency and integrity of the scholarly record.

The original article will be clearly marked as RETRACTED, and its webpage will provide a prominent link to the corresponding retraction notice.

The article's publication history, DOI, and bibliographic information will be preserved where appropriate.

Removal of the full text will be considered only in exceptional circumstances involving significant legal, privacy, ethical, or public safety concerns.

6. Corrections and Errata

When errors are identified in a published article but do not invalidate its principal findings or conclusions, the journal may publish a correction or erratum.

Corrections may address:

  • Errors in figures, tables, or numerical values.

  • Typographical or production errors affecting interpretation.

  • Inaccurate descriptions requiring clarification.

  • Other identifiable errors that do not fundamentally undermine the reliability of the research.

Corrections must clearly identify the original article and describe the changes made.

7. Expressions of Concern

An expression of concern may be issued when credible questions arise regarding the reliability, integrity, or ethical conduct of a published study, but the available evidence is insufficient to justify an immediate retraction.

An expression of concern may also be appropriate when an investigation is ongoing and its conclusion is expected to take a substantial amount of time.

The journal will review the matter as further evidence becomes available and determine whether additional corrective action is necessary.

8. Responsibilities of Authors

Authors are expected to cooperate with editorial investigations concerning their published work.

Authors must promptly inform the editorial team when they identify significant errors or other issues that may affect the validity of their findings.

Authors are responsible for providing accurate explanations, relevant documentation, and supporting evidence when requested.

9. Editorial Independence and Confidentiality

Decisions regarding corrections, expressions of concern, and retractions must be based on scientific evidence and publication ethics.

Editors with conflicts of interest must not participate in decisions concerning the affected article.

The editorial team will maintain appropriate confidentiality during investigations while ensuring that final public notices provide sufficient information to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.

10. Commitment to Publication Integrity

Jurnal Biologi Papua is committed to addressing publication concerns fairly, transparently, objectively, and in a timely manner.

The journal will periodically review its policies and procedures to maintain alignment with internationally recognized standards of research integrity and scholarly publishing.
