Publication Ethics

Jurnal Kajian Ekonomi dan Studi Pembangunan is a blind-review journal published three times a year (April, August, and December). The journal features various articles based on philosophical, conceptual, and theoretical insights, critical reviews, and research findings in the fields of development economics and economic development.

The publication of articles in a blind-review journal is an essential building block for developing a coherent and respected knowledge network. This is a direct reflection of the quality of the work of the authors and the institutions that support them. Therefore, a standard of ethical behavior is expected from all parties involved in the act of publishing: authors, journal editors, and peer reviewers.

1. Duties and Responsibilities of Editors

  • Publication Responsibility: The editor is fully responsible for all articles published in the Journal of Regional Economic and Development Studies.
  • OJS Guidance: Editors must assist authors in following proper instructions throughout the Open Journal Systems (OJS) process.
  • Objectivity and Fairness: An editor must evaluate manuscripts objectively for publication, assessing each manuscript based on its quality regardless of the author's nationality, ethnicity, political beliefs, race, religion, gender, seniority, or institutional affiliation. Editors must recuse themselves if a potential conflict of interest arises from their editorial duties.
  • Confidentiality in Blind Review: Editors must ensure that documents sent to reviewers do not contain any information revealing the author's identity and vice versa. The editor and editorial staff must maintain strict confidentiality of all submitted manuscripts.
  • Final Decision: The editorial decision must be communicated to the author, accompanied by the reviewers' comments unless they contain offensive or defamatory remarks. The editors may consult other editors or reviewers when making the final decision.
  • Respecting Reviewer Exclusions: Editors should respect the reasonable and practical requests of authors that a specific individual should not review their submission.

2. Duties and Responsibilities of Reviewers (Peer Reviewers)

  • Contribution to Decisions: Blind peer review assists editors in making editorial decisions and may help authors improve their manuscripts through communication with the editorial board.
  • Punctuality: Reviewers must complete their work on time and promptly notify the editor if they are unable to complete the review within the given deadline.
  • Confidentiality: Reviewers must maintain the absolute confidentiality of the manuscript under review and must not disclose any information to third parties.
  • Conflict of Interest: Reviewers must decline to review manuscripts in which they have potential conflicts of interest resulting from competitive, collaborative, or other relationships with any of the authors.
  • Objectivity: Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the authors is inappropriate. Reviewers must express their views clearly, with supporting arguments.
  • Acknowledgment of Sources: Reviewers must identify relevant published works that have not been cited by the author. They must inform the editor of any substantial similarity or overlap between the manuscript under consideration and any other published papers of which they have personal knowledge.

3. Duties and Responsibilities of Authors

  • Originality and Authenticity: Authors must ensure that the material has never been published before and that they have not transferred any rights to the article elsewhere. Authors must guarantee the authenticity of their work and cite the work of others correctly, according to the reference format.
  • Plagiarism and Self-Plagiarism: Authors must not engage in plagiarism or self-plagiarism. Submitting the same manuscript to more than one journal concurrently constitutes unethical publishing behavior and is unacceptable in the academic community.
  • Reporting Errors in Published Works: When an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in their published work, it is the author's obligation to promptly notify the journal editor and cooperate to retract or correct the paper.
  • Authorship of the Paper: Authorship should be limited to those who have made significant contributions to the conception, design, execution, or interpretation of the study. All significant contributors should be listed as co-authors of the manuscript. The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors have approved the final version of the paper and agreed to its submission for publication.
  • Data Integrity and Disclosure: Authors must mention influential publications in the preparation of their work. Information obtained privately (such as through conversation, correspondence, or discussion) must not be used without explicit written permission. Authors are also required to provide raw data or job details to the editor if there is a suspicion of data forgery or falsification.
